This is intended to be a tracking bug for all bugs which leave behind temporary files. Leaving behind temporary files may not seem so bad at a glance but they do add up and users *do* notice them. Here is a comment from Ken Downing on 11/15/2000 at http://www.macintouch.com/netscape6.html: It leaves a lot of files in the Mac's temporary items folder also. I use Auto Purge, and it finds (and deletes) a good many files every time I've used NS 6.

Leaving temporary files around is also bad on Mac OS 9, because the OS never deletes them (a known OS 9 bug).
Raised priority and severity as this is NOT a minor problem. We are spewing hundreds of files to the user's desktop. These files should NEVER have been placed on the desktoip in the first place. They may be temporary files but even putting them on the desktop temporarily is not acceptable. They belong in the temporary items folder.
Severity: normal → critical
Priority: P3 → P1

sdagley, this is a tracking bug. The Mac-specific bug either doesn't exist or isn't linked from this bug. Can you correct that?
Steve: what you describe is unrelated to this bug. It's bug 55639 and is caused by low-memory conditions. Feel free to debug if you can reproduce it.
As sfraser pointed out, 55639 is the bug I was looking for so I restored the old priority and severity settings for this one. Damnit samir, you pointed me to the wrong bug :-)
Severity: critical → normal

Dammit Steve: you asked the wrong person. :o)
