User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; de; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; de; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12 When you type in a domain with the german character "ß" in the URL firefox convert it into ss. Since 4 August 2010, the IDNAbis standard allows the Latin small letter sharp “S” – also known as “Eszett” or “sharp s” (”ß”) – to be used as part of a domain name. Please support it in new Firefox Versions :-) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. type in roß.de 2. press enter Actual Results: firefox redirects to ross.de Expected Results: Firefox should connect to roß.de

See also Bug 479520 as it might be related.
The issue is not adding the ß character to the .de domain, but implementing IDNA2008 in bug 479520.
As Jo says, this is a change for IDNA2008, and will be fixed when we implement that standard. Gerv
