I am having an issue with Sync, which presents itself every time I restart Firefox. I have come up with a daily routine to get around the problem, but I can't imagine this is intended functionality.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Tools -> Sync Now ... fail
Prefs -> Connect ... "Incorrect account name or password"; click Update, enter my password
Manage Account -> "No saved Sync Key to use"; click Update, enter old sync key
Dialog: "Please enter the master password for the Software Security Device."; enter master password
All is well
Actual Results:
Initial Sync on a fresh-started browser fails and will not log in until I update the password. After that, I must re-enter my sync key and enter my master password to get the sync to work.
Expected Results:
Press Tools -> Sync Now. Ask (potentially) for master password and automatically sync everything.
Maybe Firefox is forgetting to ask for the master password when a sync is requested, which makes the process fail if the sync credentials are stored under a master password?

Richard, this looks like it's related to the master password stuff. Could you try to reproduce this?

Not sure how this slipped through the cracks. Sorry for taking so long to triage!
I suspect you have Firefox set to delete your saved passwords on quit. Is that correct?
If so, this is Bug 553400, and there's no good solution. Sync stores its credentials in Password Manager.
Sync does prompt for MP on sync, if the MP is not already unlocked. The symptoms you're seeing suggest that your credentials simply aren't being saved between sessions. Your expected results have been verified by QA.
Not a problem, I know you guys have been busy lately. And yes you are right, I didn't notice that the sync key is also stored in password manager, which I clear out on shutdown ... so this is the same issue as 553400. I have marked this as a duplicate.
