It would probably be the easiest way for us to drive load to the phx cluster. This is useful first for testing config changes. Later, it would be useful for having a backup cluster in the case of catastrophic failure of the primary cluster.

Pasting my comment from a different bug: Replication docs were a bit hidden but jdcryans pointed me in the right direction. http://hbase.apache.org/apidocs/org/apache/hadoop/hbase/replication/package-summary.html We need a cluster restart of production in order to enable it though.
Chatting on #hbase. I guess others couldn't get replication working with CDH3b3. That said CDH3b4(HBase 0.90.1) is coming out next week anyway. We would need to upgrade production and secondary both in order for the replication to work.
