User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101206 Ubuntu/10.10 (maverick) Firefox/3.5.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101206 Ubuntu/10.10 (maverick) Firefox/3.5.2
I use sync on TWO machines. On both of them, after each sync, the spellchecker.dictionary user preference is reset to es_GT. I have never set it to that myself. I attempted several solutions:
* manually selecting English-US from the right-click menu
* manually setting the pref value to en_US in about:config
* manually clearing the pref value in about:config
I've done this on both machines, but the problem persists. After each sync, the pref is set to es_GT. Thinking it might be related to the sync bug that sets the display language to a "chrome:" URL, I manually set that preference to English as well. No effect.
I don't know if it's relevant, but Spanish/Guatemala is the first language listed in the right-click menu.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Visit about:config and set spellchecker.dictionary pref to en_US or reset it.
2. Sync.
3. Visit about:config and look.
Actual Results:
4. spellchecker.dictionary pref now says es_GT.
Expected Results:
5. The software should have retained my actual setting.

This is to illustrate that the language that sync chooses is the first item in the list, even though the actual pref value (es_GT) should not be alphabetically first in the list of options.

Does this occur using 3.6.x and higher / a clean profile (to exclude other addons)?

Look; I don't see how that's even a testable scenario -- you'd have to be running add-ons, so you can't do it in safe mode, and you'd have to have a *working* (ie, non-null) profile to even _have_ data to be synced.

I explicitly stated "other addons", ie not sync.
As it is Firefox 4 has sync built in, so that was a non issue anyway.
I marked as INCO since so reply to comment 2 in 3 months.
Please retest with 4.0.1 or higher and a clean profile / reopen if it still occurs. Thanks :-)
