Double-clicking a word in the URL bar or anywhere on the web page often results in the word not being entirely selected, but "half-selected." What I mean is this: I double-click a word. Sometimes the whole word is selected, other times, the whole word is selected, but immediately the selection backs off to include only from the beginning of the word to where the mouse cursor is. If the word is "Mozilla", and I hover the mouse over it, and double-click right after the Z, only "Moz" is selected. I notice this happens if I'm not careful to RAPIDLY let up on the mouse button after the second click. It's hit and miss, very inconsistent. This bug has been around practically forever (as long as I can remember, and I've been downloading builds since M5 or before); I'm sad I didn't report it sooner.
sorry, should be under Selection component...
Component: Browser-General → Selection
i see this on linux 2000122721, and yes, its old. Not sure it's been reported. What happens - contrary to other apps - is that when mouse is moved slightly during a double- or triple-click, the click-selecting is "truncated", and instead of performing the expected "select whole word" or "line", selection will be the word "from beginning of word till where the cursor moved to when i clicked second time". Annoying bug, agreed. Resolving as new, reassigning.

I see this regularly in making word selections from bugzilla comments. I was able to reproduce with 122805 build after double-clicking on about 6 words. I didn't see any bugs filed on this. I agree that it looks like the word is briefly selected completely but then selection snaps back to the cursor point. I have no idea if this is helpful but after some experimentation I found that this is happening regardless of whether the second click is released or not. I can also confirm that it happens in forms like the Additional Comments field or the URL bar as well as in simple HTML page content in and out of tables. Seems pretty universal.
OS: All. It's pretty hard to keep the mouse 100% still during a double-click, even worse when triple-clicking. So this happens fairly often. The essense of this bug is: Determine extent of selection based on where the *first* sequential click happened, and overrule/ignore eventual mouse-movement during click-sequence.

I'm 90% sure i've seen this reported. Sigh, we should have fixed it ages ago.

Found it. This is really a dup of bug 23784 "double-clicking doesn't select entire word (if mouseMoved)" 23784 was marked dup of bug 16203 "double-click drag should do selection in "word-by-word" mode" However: They seem like two different bugs to me. 23784 is about selection being truncated if mouse move between click 1 and 2. 16203 is a request, asking for "drag-automation", an auto-select of whole succeeding words if cursor moves into a word *after button-down in click 2 is detected* (but before button-up)
this should be dup'ed to #21090 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 21090 ***
