To install Java 1.3_01 I copied the following files to the plug-in directory: NPJava130_01.dll NPJava130_01.dlla NPJava130_01.dllb NPJava130_01.dllc NPOJI600.dll At the moment I start Mozilla, the following exception occurs and the start crashes: MOZILLA verursachte einen Fehler durch eine ungültige Seite in Modul JVM.DLL bei 015f:50437960. Register: EAX=017ccde4 CS=015f EIP=50437960 EFLGS=00010246 EBX=017ccde4 SS=0167 ESP=0068e60c EBP=0068e654 ECX=00000000 DS=0167 ESI=0068e628 FS=3bff EDX=0068e67c ES=0167 EDI=00000000 GS=0000 Bytes bei CS:EIP: 8b 01 56 57 8b 79 04 8b 70 38 6a 0c e8 53 b1 fe Stapelwerte: 50441199 017ccd90 50444359 00000000 0068e67c 017ccde4 00000000 00000033 017ccd90 0068e670 5045ed70 00000033 017ccd90 017ccde4 0000000e 00000000 By the way the same happens with NS6. Do you know why this happens?
looks like you didn't follow directions. Please install java through mozilla. please use a current nightly build [or 0.7]. To do this you would simply go to java.sun.com w/o the plugins and get a dialog that offers to help you get java. Alternatively, the netscape6 installer builds can retrieve java for you. please use talkback builds so we have a prayer of interpretting crash output.
Hello "timeless"! Hm, I use the build from 4th January 2001. I think that it is one of the latest ones. Why do you think, that java isn´t correctly installed? If I use the setup, it only copies the same four files into the plugin-directory... Thanks. Daniel
Keywords: crash
(a) it's possible we have issues w/ localized systems ignoring that, please remove from plugins those 4 files, download these 3: ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.0_netbiz_edition/windows/win32/x pi/jre13i.exe ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.0_netbiz_edition/windows/win32/x pi/jrereg.xpi ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-win32-talkback.zip unzip the mozilla and use it [i'm sorry about the comment about the old version comment, but it helps if you include your build id, see bugzilla helper]. Getting a talkback build means we can get useful call stack information from your mozilla when it dies [if?]. then point mozilla to the downloaded xpi [i think] or do you run the exe and then point moz at the xpi, it's been a while...
Only NPOJI600.dll is needed to be copied for Java to work.
Any chance this is bug 64074?
Very little chance, since I meant bug 63074.
Hi Dean! I read bug 63074, too. But I use Windows 98, and I didn´t use a firewall... because of this I wrote my report. Thanks. Bye, Daniel
Hi timeless! If i start the talkback-version with the -console parameter, the last output is: (QFA)Talkback error: Can´t initialize. I see the Mozilla starting-logo and the exception occurs in a "Windows-error- window", but with different values: MOZILLA verursachte einen Fehler durch eine ungültige Seite in Modul JVM.DLL bei 015f:50437960. Register: EAX=01b01214 CS=015f EIP=50437960 EFLGS=00010246 EBX=01b01214 SS=0167 ESP=0068e60c EBP=0068e654 ECX=00000000 DS=0167 ESI=0068e628 FS=4acf EDX=0068e67c ES=0167 EDI=00000000 GS=0000 Bytes bei CS:EIP: 8b 01 56 57 8b 79 04 8b 70 38 6a 0c e8 53 b1 fe Stapelwerte: 50441199 01b011c0 50444359 00000000 0068e67c 01b01214 00000000 00000033 01b011c0 0068e670 5045ed70 00000033 01b011c0 01b01214 0000000e 00000000 If I delete the NPOJI.dll, Mozilla works fine but without java support. Thanks for your help!! Bye, Daniel
Talkback _should_ initialize, is your install on a readonly partition or anything interesting?
Please reinstall java with the steps timeless gave you earlier : 1) Install a fresh build with a fresh profile. 2) Go to java.sun.com 3) Click on the "Get the plugin" icon on the upper right corner of the site (where the applet should be) 4) Follow the instructions 5) Restart Mozilla. If it still doesn't work.. then I'm out of ideas, except if you have new hints for us...
Hello timeless, hello Fabian! I´m back again. I followed your instructions but, i´m sorry, mozilla (talkback version - 2001010708) won´t start again after the installation of java. I reinstalled Mozilla, installed java and rebootet my pc. Then i tried to start mozilla -console (last outprint: (QFA) Talkback loaded Ok.) -> the only change Then this kind of Schutzverletzung (... protection violence??? ...) occured with different values. What kind of hints may i give you?? Thanks for so long!! Bye, Daniel
Sorry. I forgot to write, that the NS6 bug-report-window appeared which i sent.
good!! please enter the talkback incident id here. to find this, you can run the qfa agent [components\talkback.exe] from this we can actually track down your problem :-)
Here we go... The ID: TB24224402Y Thanks!

This works for me. win 32 build 2001060104 on win98 using Java 1.3_01 and Java 1.3.1. It does NOT crash, but the colors on the desktop are flashing when I go to java.sun.com & the applet starts.
We have tried to reproduce in the latest nightly build of mozilla using java 1.3_01. This bug did not occur. I'm marking this as worksforme now. If someone is still seeing this problem kindly reopen this. -raghu

Hello! Java doesn´t work on my machine at all, but it seems that I am the one and only. If I go to java.sun.com or any other page using java components, Mozilla crashes at once. I tried Java 1.3_01 and 1.3.1. I tried the latest nightly with JRE 1.3.1 and created the following TB-ID: TB31836046Y I use an ordinary Windows 98 (first edition) system. Perhaps there is a special problem on my system, which gets Mozilla or the JVM to get in trouble with. But I do not have any idea. Maybe it´s pointless. Thanks. Bye, Daniel

Reporter: Please go to ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly to download the latest version of mozilla. Notice that to use mozilla installer instead of zip files. That way you can download and use JRE 1.3.0_01 from netscape. Please give it a try and let me know if you have problems.
Hello! Today I tried mozilla-win32-installer-sea.exe - 2001062104 and installed Java1.3_01 through Mozilla downloading Java from Netscape. At java.sun.com Mozilla crashed and I created TB32052573W. Bye, Daniel

Ragu: Currently I don't have Win98, could you make someone to test this in Win98, maybe Alex? Thanks!
Reporter: Do you still have this problem with 0.9.2 build?
this is technically a dup of 89488 if you see the summaries. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 89488 ***

I don't think this is the same as 89488 which reports a true hang on Linux, while this one is a crash (complete w/talkback ID's) on Windows. The install code/mechanism is different, the bits are different, the symptoms are different. We could examine the talkback traces to see if this is a common problem and to get additional clues.

Can't reproduce this bug with recent trunk(2001071408) and NS6.1 PR1 with JRE1.3.0_01 and JRE1.3.1 under Win98
Hate to WORKSFORME, but no one has been able to duplicate the crashing conditions
