When you go to add a new external application via prefs after you finish filling in the information pressing the cancel or OK buttons does nothing. If you hit OK twice it complains about it already existing so I'm guessing that it's been added. You can close the dialog with the close button on the window manager but that's the only way to dismiss it. Also, you can't see the resulting entry (bug 64405)
hrm, sounds similar to bug 53870, except this is now happening with the New File Type dialog [rather than the Edit Type dialog]. blizzard, when did you first notice this [ie, is it recent]? thx.
It is not recent. I've seen it for weeks and weeks. I just kept forgetting to file the bug. :)

I am sure this is bug 50914. Pls read the description in bug 50914. (especially racham@netscape.com 2000-10-11 16:30 ). Try using a new profile or copying a new version of mimetypes.rdf(from defaults/profile folder) to your current profile and this should work. Thanks!

I've just used blizzard's mimeTypes.rdf file from 64405 on linux (stock RH7) using build 2001-02-27-14. Adding a new type and hitting 'OK' or 'Cancel' works for me. Marking W4M.

I'm going to mark this bug verified, but the helper apps pane still has issues. See bug 81330.
