Summary: Help About Mozilla in "modal" should alow copy paste → Help About Mozilla in "modal" should allow copy paste

This works for me with build 2001010420 on NT4. Selecting "Help ... About
Mozilla" opens a new window and I can copy the version number from there.
Despite that, the version number is part of every window title, and it may be
faster to just type in those 10 digits from there.
Besides, please use the Bugzilla Helper next time when reporting a bug. Only
two lines of description on a bug are not helping much.
You may of course reopen this bug with a more descriptive comment if you
disagree.

The key word here was "modal" which is a setting under preferences, debug, last
item. This allows one to open the help about as a separate window (not a browser
window). Just like ALL other programs' help about feature. Here copy and paste
don't work. I can't even select any text there. Please reopen and fix.

Okay, now I know what you mean. But you could reopen it yourself - anyways,
reopening now.
But still, please try to use the Bugzilla helper next time. This confusion
wouldn't have been necessary.
And finding the appropriate component other than the catch-all "Browser-General"
would probably increase the chances that the right people are seeing your bug
more than adding lots of keywords.

Mpt, I think this is the bug you were talking about on IRC (making the version
number in the About window selectable).

<offtopic type="rant">Okay, now I'm getting ticked. I've just tried to change
some of the basic information about this bug to reflect the facts, and three
times Bugzilla has told me no. Each time I go back one page to fix it, I lose
all the changes I attempted to make, including in the Additional Comments
section. This is the fifth time I've attempted to send this information.</offtopic>
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20010913
Recommend OS to All, Severity to "minor", Summary to 'Help, About Mozilla modal
dialog shoul allow selection".
Steps to reproduce:
(1)Go to Edit, Preferences. In the popup panel, choose the Debug section. In
the Miscellaneous field set, check "Show 'About' as modal dialog." Click "OK".
(2)Go to Help, About Mozilla. The modal dialog pops up.
(3)Click your mouse down on the build version string and drag over the string,
mouse button down the entire time.
Expected results: The build version string is selected.
Actual results: Nothing is selected.
For the record, typing "about:" in the location bar brings the About Mozilla
page into the current window -- not into a modal dialog window.
Also, I know selection for the browser window belongs to the Editor team; does
that apply to modal dialogs as well?

Kicking back up to somewhere other than Help! This isn't a Help bug per se.

The modal About dialog pref has gone away. This is invalid. No point in keeping
bugs open about something that is nonexistent. We may change about to a dialog
some day, in which case we can revisit this if it's still an issue.

I'm going to reopen. BenB convinced me to at least keep the current one in the
tree. The implementation is not as bad as I thought.

Changing severity Enh -> minor, and KW: mozilla0.9.9, because being able to
copy/paste the mozilla version accurately and frequently is particularly
important to mozilla as a project in development (e.g., bug reporting).
PS. I'm also hoping that the modal display will be made the default someday,
because it is the better way to show version info anyhow.
Severity: enhancement → minor

This isn't my bug. Someone cc'd here want it, or want to suggest a better owner
than me, or shall I mark WONTFIX?

Taking for now, but this is a future issue since the modal version isn't enabled
right now. I'll revisit this down the line.
