For Aurora, we'd like to have the all.html/aurora just for Aurora builds and the same for all.html/beta although the former is more urgent since the localizers have already started to localize Aurora and could have localized builds next week.
Also, right now http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html has beta versions at the bottom of the page and ideally we delete that section and this page only has final Release builds.
I'm not sure much design needs to happen and I'd like to re-use as much copy that exists to reduce l10n efforts. let me know if i should skip design and go straight to web dev.

I think we can skip this as a design bug and go straight to the website part (I've recategorized appropriately).
Questions:
- is there any new design needed or can we use this exact page but with different download links?
- what copy is needed? seems like we'd need to change at least a bit for clarity around this being a non-final release page.
- am pretty sure the section at the bottom of the current all.html is for beta versions of the localizations vs the software itself. Maybe we need to change the way they're positioned, but I don't think we should delete that part.
- is there any new design needed or can we use this exact page but with
different download links? [MAYUMI: NOPE, SAME DESIGN JUST DIFFERENT LINKS, ALTHOUGH WE MAY WANT TO PUT THE AURORA LOGO ON THE AURORA PAGE TO CLARIFY THAT IT'S NOT FULL FIREFOX]
- what copy is needed? seems like we'd need to change at least a bit for
clarity around this being a non-final release page. [MAYUMI: THE TOP COPY IS PROBABLY NOT RELEVANT AND WE'D HAD TO CHANGE ANY LANGUAGE AROUND BETA TO AURORA FOR THE AURORA PAGE]
- am pretty sure the section at the bottom of the current all.html is for beta
versions of the localizations vs the software itself. Maybe we need to change
the way they're positioned, but I don't think we should delete that part. [MAYUMI: OH WASN'T AWARE OF THAT, IF THAT'S THE CASE, THEN IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE DELETED BUT IT IS A BIT CONFUSING]

Re: comment #2, if you guys (PMMs) can let us know what you want to change, we (creative) can make that happen.
I do think that replacing the illustration with more basic header is good, but we could use a little direction about the other tweaks.
Copy header something like this for Aurora:
Download Firefox Aurora in your language
Experience the newest innovations in an unstable environment and provide feedback on features and performance to help determine what makes the final release.
Copy header something like this for Beta
Experience cutting edge beta features but with more stability and provide feedback to help refine and polish what will be in the final release.
May want to add a note somewhere on the page for both pages:
These localized builds may contain translation errors. Don't see your language? Check for updates as more languages will be added.

Those are basically taken from my blurbs on the channel page, so I'm fine them, but if these are going to live on their own (i.e. separate from one another), I'd tweak the Beta copy slightly so it's clear what we're comparing to:
Experience cutting edge beta features with more stability than Aurora and provide
feedback to help refine and polish what will be in the final release.
Also, not sure if everyone visiting these will be familiar with the term build, so maybe:
These localized versions may contain translation errors. Don't see your
language? Check for updates as more languages will be added.
+1 for both changes and for the beta copy, can we link Aurora to the all.html/Aurora page
Experience cutting edge beta features with more stability than Aurora and
provide feedback to help refine and polish what will be in the final release.
These localized versions may contain translation errors. Don't see your
language? Check for updates as more languages will be added.

Got it. Grace, let's talk about this page soon so we can figure out what still needs to be done on the design front...probably not a lot, but would at least like to talk it through before we hand off to webdev.
(This could be handled in the same conversation as the beta First Run page we were discussing in bug 637455.)
Is there an ETA on this? Looks like localized builds are starting to land in dailies. Also, right now the all.html/aurora is more pressing than beta since beta won't be needed until May 17th. Thanks

Hi Slater,
Per our discussion, will need to get this up as early as possible.
There's a big push in getting more Aurora users and having the localized builds will help tremendously.
The localized builds can be found in the links below:
English Version: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora/
Localized Version: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora-l10n/
Just to Summarize:
We need to have all.html/aurora page for the localized Aurora builds(current page: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html)
From this page, we need to update the logo to the Aurora logo and update the header copy to say:
Download Firefox Aurora in your language
Experience the newest innovations in an unstable environment and provide
feedback on features and performance to help determine what makes the final
release.
We also want to add this copy somewhere in the page:
These localized versions may contain translation errors. Don't see your
language? Check for updates as more languages will be added.
please let me know if i can provide any additional info/help in order to get the all/html for aurora created.
thanks!!!!!

Grace filed bug 651299 to cover the beta version, so am renaming this one to be more focused on Aurora. Also reassigning to Steven.
Steven, I got word from the PMMs today that this needs to happen asap. Think we can fast-track it? Here's what needs to change:
Header area:
- remove copy and illustration from the main all.html page
- main image is the Aurora logo from bug 646889 + "Download Firefox Aurora in Your Language" as the headline
- subheadline is "Experience the newest innovations in an unstable environment and provide feedback on features and performance to help determine what makes the final release."
Languages list:
- Aurora isn't available in every language yet...I've asked Grace to post the list of available languages in the bug (it's in http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora-l10n/, but that page is pretty dense).
- I believe http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora-l10n/ has all the proper download links, but let me know if that's not the case.
So, that's the project. Let's talk tomorrow about any questions and timing.
Thanks!

Also, forgot to mention one other key detail from comment #10...somewhere on the page we need to call these messages out:
Don't see your language? Check for updates as more languages will be added.
These localized versions may contain translation errors.
They could be grouped together, or separately. I'm not totally where they should go, though...any ideas?

there is one additional detail that we need to work out. previously our all.html pages for final releases, and beta download pages like this one out of the internet archive [1], have a been static links to the builds that were selected as the shipping bits declared for the final release or beta.
the aurora channel will be producing nightly builds so which build we link to from the page gets more complicated. The problem might be solved by just linking to builds put in the "latest-mozilla-aurora-l10n" directory on the ftp site
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora-l10n/?C=M;O=A
but we need to check bandwidth capacity and other other possible side effects that might inhibit linking to these builds without creating a round of IT problems.

a couple of messages that I discussed with mayumi that we will eventually want to weave into the page would include stuff about how to be a successful aurora user.
things about:
-how to install the addon compat reporter and provide info when you see favorite addons not working,
-installing the user agent switcher to help get bank and other sites working that don't recognize the aurora version of the browser yet.
-reminders about sending in crash reports, and input feedback,
setting the right expections around when to see translated localizations (beta)
and other general messages that won't change much. (like jslater mentioned in comment 12)
these would be good additions to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/ or linked off that page as well. these extra messages could come in a second revision of the page or the navigation paths.
for now we just need something simple to start pointing people at so we can build the aurora pool of testers.

Good insights, thanks chofmann. Comment #13 in particular makes me think that it's going to be hard to crank this page out as quickly as we'd hoped.

Chris/Christian/John - regarding comment #13 who needs to help with this and from what team? We really need to get the localized builds out if we want to build the Aurora channel. Who can be responsible for checking bandwidth? Also, how does it happen on http://nightly.mozilla.org/ since doesn't that deal with nightly builds (I'm assuming it has low traffic so we don't need to deal with bandwidth issues)? Who can web dev work with to get this ready?

I've set up a start for this page in trunk in r87563. So far this is just a copy of all.html that updates the main feature text and image at the top of the page. We could probably do something a bit more dramatic than just dropping the logo in there like this, but in the interests of time, this should do.
Need to talk to Anthony about actually generating the table of download links.

Awesome, thanks guys. Page is looking good, but two notes:
- logo is maybe a touch on the large side
- need to include the copy from comment #12...the sidebar seems like a good spot.
Re: the issue from comment #13, chofmann, who do you advise talking to? Anthony, what do you think?

We currently link to the FTP using http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora. Pascal and I will link to http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora-l10n for now. So I think this is not a problem for the Internet Archive.
I've also asked in bug 647678 if we can get the l10n builds in the same repository as the en-US builds.
Pascal also told me that in the future, Aurora builds will be served through a bouncer (like other builds) so this bandwidth problem would disappear.

- also this is the list we have at this time and can also change.. the ftp would probably have the most updated list.
chris and axel,
- can you please confirm which builds are fully localized.
thanks!

to answer a number of questions and follow up from conversation between joduin, laura, grace, and I.
-aurora builds are *not* guaranteed to be localized, especially early in any aurora development period but I think we have that covered in the proposed page. where strings haven't been localized yet they will appear in english.
-once an l10n build appears in http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora it remains there until its replaced with a completed build from the next day. currently, no smoke test are run on these builds before posting, so there is bit of risk of a broken build being staged here for download. we will just have to deal with this in the next nightly respin. we should probably spin off another bug to address over a longer time frame but not block on this.
-http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora is not mirrored, but there is adequate bandwidth and server capacity to support up to a million or more downloads so its ok to point the aurora page at this directory.

Committed r87655 in product-details and r87657 on trunk.
So http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-aurora.html should get the right links as soon as "product-details" is updated (I don't know when that happens).
Also http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/ should give the right locale for Aurora.
I'm not really confident about this change so it needs extensive testing to check if I haven't broke lots of download buttons everywhere.

hi lauraf and steven,
are we good to go here? is there anything else we need? when does it go live?
When the page is live, we also need to update the Firefox Channel (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/)page and add the link under the Aurora download button (bug 650152)
thanks!
