Moving the hover over link from right to left when the search field is open makes it hard to find, especially on large screens or windows spanning multiple screens.
In UI design speak this violates the "principle of least surprise".
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Ensure the page-search field is not visible
2. Hover a link
VP. The overlink appears at the bottom left
3. Ensure the page-search field is visible (control-f, command-f on osx)
4. The overlink appears at the bottom right
Actual Results:
Step 4 VP the overlink appears at bottom right on top of page-search bar.
Expected Results:
Step 4 becomes the overlink appears at bottom left on top of page-search bar.
In really small windows the screen space is lost when the search is visible and as a link is hovered in any case. If the idea is that left-to-right readers tend to scan a page in a Z-pattern then this leaves the obscured text to later in the Z it fails for right-to-left languages.
