Details
Steps: 1) Read mail with attachment that is SPREADSHEET 2) Click on attachment icon in the mail body and highlight Spreadsheet file to open 3) At first pop-up window, select "Open file" 4) Because this is a spreadsheet, it can not be opened with N6 and there is a second pop-up window that asks whether to open XLS file by choosing an application such as EXCEL. ACTUAL RESULT The second pop-up window does not pop to the top of the desktop, and therefore it appears that nothing is happening, when actually, the pop-up window is waiting for user input. EXPECTED RESULT The second pop-up window should pop to the front so that a user can select to open the XLS file using EXCEL. (I had to notice the "Downloading" icon on the taskbar and click it to pop the window to the top). Build. N6 RTM Disc Windows 98 Further consideration - Why doesn't the browser associate the XLS file type with the Excel automatically as a preference which I am sure was defined under 4.7x? Is this also a merge from 4.7x to N6 issue? The extra pop-up window adds a step that seems extraneous in the case where an application can already be associated with a file type.

Helper apps are defined in the preferences panel. It does not automatically migrate your windows settings. You have to define each mime type manually. I'm pretty sure if you have excel listed as a helper app it will open automatically. As to why it pops up in the back... It's a FE problem, not networking, so reassigning to mail for triage.

Could you please test with the latest Mozilla build (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly and pick the latest directory which contains a build for your platform). Netscape 6 has a lot of bugs that Mozilla does not have, and this might well be fixed. Now that I think of it, mail has nothing to do with helper apps.. so reassigning to something hopefully better
