User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1
When bringing up the context menu on selected text that contains an URL, the menu has actions to "Open Link", "Open Link in New Tab" and "Open Link in New Window". I would also like the action "Download Link" in this menu.
This would allow me to quickly download binary files without having to open them in a separate tab first. This is particularly useful for downloading PDFs (and images) without having them open in the browser's internal viewer.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select a text containing a URL.
2. Bring up a context-menu (right-click or similar).
3. Observe that the "Download Link" action is missing from the menu.

There is already a "Save Link As"...how is "Download Link" to be different?

"Save Link As..." is only shown in context menus for actual links (i.e. <a href="...">). What I'm referring to is the menu for selected text containing an URL that is not a link, just plain text.
However, "Save Link As..." is probably a better action title, for consistency.

There is an extension that does part of that - it lets you open the URL that isn't in a href - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/text-link/ - You may want to ask them if they could also incorporate the save link as feature...
Getting it in an extension is the most likely way to get this functionality...
Will leave this request open in case a developer wants to implement in FF.
Holding down [Alt] while dragging a text URL with the QuickDrag Firefox extension is how I normally save text URLs.
In any case, this bug is a subset of the feature request in bug 518006 (that bug asks for the full link context menu).

Not exactly sure what you mean, but the feature is still missing in Firefox 5.0.
