Netscape 2.x-4.x had a toolbar button to toggle image loading on and off. Now
turning images off requires making a journey through Edit | Preferences |
Advanced | Images | Do not load any images, and turning them on again requires
as many steps.
As a user who connects to the internet via modem, I had grown accustomed to
toggling images on and off with a single click. So the present seven-step
process to do it now is rather annoying.
This is certainly a byproduct of the change from the two-state on/off to the
three state:
( ) Do not load any images
( ) Accept all images
( ) Accept images that come from the originating server only
[ ] Alert me before downloading an image
Such a toggle could be restored without affecting the external server setting by
dividing this option into two toggles:
[ ] Enable images
[ ] Refuse images that do not come from the originating server
[ ] Alert me before downloading an image
Then the toggle could be flipped by an easily accessed menu item like View | Images.
this is either a dupe (possibly of bug 61710), or dependent on bug 57505.
to UIDF for comments. I think opera has some sort of menu toggle.

I like to have a toolbar for this, rather then going into a menu. Opera has a
small TV screen for that on _all_ windows. It's blinking fast and very easy to use!

Changing summary since 57505 covers the View | Show Images menu item.
I'd prefer a toolbar button, too, but I'd be happy if the placeholder menu item
were enabled.
Summary: [feature] menu item to toggle image loading → [feature] separate "accept all images" from "originating server only"

Ah, this is where I wish there was a `3xp' keyword -- this feature wasn't present
in 4.x, but was in 3.x and earlier (during a time when connection speeds were
typically a quarter of what they are now, or even less than that).
I don't think this deserves a menu item, but a toolbar for it (which would be off
by default) is bug 38521.
do you mean a separate toolbar just for this? if you mean a button, then please
see bug 61710.

Chaning the qa contact on these bugs to me. MPT will be moving to the
owner of this component shortly. I would like to thank him for all his hard
work as he moves roles in mozilla.org...Yada, Yada, Yada...

as in opera, i think this toggle should in a per tab fashion. i wanna be able to say,
dont download images from the image at this tab, download images from pages at
this, this and this tab and at this last tab, just dispolay the images cached.

Reporter, what exactly do you want? (Remember, one bug per bug report.)

I would like the options dialog changed from a three-state radio button to two checkboxes. I hope such a change will enable resolution of bug 57505.

User Interface Design is on the way to destruction. There has got to be a better
component than this, but I can't find it.

I knew there had to be a better component for this. Sorry for the spam.

Reassigning obsolete bugs to their respective Seamonkey owners (i.e. nobody).
If you want this fixed for Firefox, change the Product and Component accordingly
and reassign back to me.
