RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 578512

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:6.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0
Build ID: 20110713171652

Steps to reproduce:

Tab groups as a concept are great. Every now and again I get sucked in and start to use it extensively, grouping tabs by purpose. I will end up with maybe 5+ groups with 10+ tabs open in each, almost all of which are things I want to go back to - mostly for work, kind of like a tab-todo - without messing around with bookmarks. It's like the web equivalent of sticky notes.

Actual results:

Every time I start to get somewhere, the fact that this feature has been **** implemented bites me in my ass. I really don't believe ANY of the firefox developers could possibly be using this feature because it is SO fundamentally broken.

For instance, open a new window. Ctrl-N. This window has a different set of tab groups. WTF? Even worse, with the new window minimized, close your main window. That's that, you just lost ALL your tab groups. Sucker! I have done this multiple times - it is far too easy to just lose all your tab groups.

Expected results:

Either make this feature a first class feature that sticks around and is shared across windows, or stop goading us by giving us something that is good enough to want to use but broken enough to make it a VERY frustrating experience every time we're foolish enough to get drawn in.

This has been the case with tab groups since they were first introduced.
So now I discover that if I close then re-open Firefox (with tab groups seemingly lost to the ether), then close down the tabs until I have an empty window, close that window, then re-open Firefox... I get my old tab groups back.

That's hardly intuitive.
Summary: Tab groups feature implementation is f**king broken → Tab groups should be a first class feature that sticks around and is shared across windows

This looks like a duplicate of bug 578512 if I understand it correctly.
