In the modern theme in particular there are many places where only a background color or only a text color is set for particular widgets, items. Most notable is the content-pane of the news/email reader which sets the background color to white, but takes the text color from the defaults specified in preferences. If you have white specified as your default text color email and news become unreadable. If you are going to specify background/foreground colors in a theme you must specify ALL or none, there can be no middle ground. To test, set your background and foreground colors to something other than the default, (I suggest white text on black background to find most bugs quickly).
