There now exists a network.protocol-handler.external.mailto preference which allows mailto: URIs to be passed to external mail clients. (See Bug 11459.) I understand that Firefox exposes this preference to the GUI, whereas in SeaMonkey it is accessible only via about:config. Please consider exposing this preference to the GUI in SeaMonkey as well; despite its built-in mail client, many users still use other mail clients and would prefer mailto: links to be handled by them. I think this is a common enough use case to make a GUI preference worthwhile.
Often requested feature that should be there, & particularly bothersome to those who do not use SeaMonkey Mail & are unaware of the preference (which does not even exist by default, & must be manually created).
Looks like FF includes "mailto" in it's Options | Applications (SeaMonkey's Preferences | Browser | Helper Applications).
Note that FF's "mailto" is configured to handle both an external mail client & also some web based mail (Yahoo & Gmail) too (also a worthy addition for SeaMonkey).
