Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1
Build ID: 20110928134238
Steps to reproduce:
I have 7 email accounts at work that I monitor, including 2 I send from, plus a couple of personal ones. I forwarded an email from my primary work address.
Actual results:
The sender was changed to another work address.
Example: Let's say I have me@work.com and documentation@work.com, both using mail.work.com for both receiving and sending mail. I receive a message on me@work.com, read it in my inbox, and forward it to someone. The forward is from documentation@work.com.
This behaviour is quite consistent.
Expected results:
The sender on a forward should be the account on which the email was received.

Which address did you configure as the default identity (outgoing SMTP server)?

The default sender is me@work.com. In fact, I have not set up documentation@work.com as an address to send from. I receive from 7 accounts at work but I'm only set up to send from one.

There are instructions to solve your problem here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mozilla_Suite_:_FAQs_:_Mail_Aliases . Please read them.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier. I set up identities as described and that's better, but it still happens - at least occasionally - in one case. That is when I forward a message I've sent. I do this each week for a status report to a host of people and yesterday it got my documentation email address as the sender again.
I set up documentation with my name and the documentation@work.com email address, but then I noticed that all incoming email from that address showed with my name as the sender! I just changed the name on that account to documentation, so let's see what that does.

Are you looking phenomenon of bug 696934? If so, it's problem of bug 672966.

If you're asking about bug 672966, it might be a match. I've now retired and removed a lot of those email addresses from my accounts, so I'm not sure I can reproduce this situation. The real issue in any case was when forwarding an email from address a, it substituted address b as the from address.
Same problem here. I have multiple email accounts and when forwarding an email a seemingly random email account is used as the sender (including the email address as listed for my newsgroup settings). This happens when I forward an email that is in the "sent" folder. Hope this last bit of info is of some help.
I am using thunderbird 24.4.0 and I still have this problem:
the FROM for the forwarded message is regularly not the same as the sender of the original message (one of my thunderbird account)??
it seems an old bug and it is not yet solved???
