Add Notes (memory joggers) to received emails

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1
Build ID: 20110928134238
Steps to reproduce:
This is a request for a new feature
Actual results:
There is not provision for adding a note to an email. The Xnotes Addon which appears to do what I would like has not been updated for years
Expected results:
I would like to be able to add a note or comment to a received email. The note would not be sent to the recipient when I replied to the email but would remain on my local machine. It would enable me to record information that I might need later, eg, if I am waiting for something before I can respond to the email properly. It would be a general plain text comment or text field that would not be visible normally but would have a status indicator column in the message display pane to highlight those emails which have messages attached or associated with them.

looks like there are alternatives, like https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/xnotepp/
Severity: normal → enhancement
Thanks for your prompt reply. I wasn't aware of that addon. I'll try it out. My main concern with add-ons, though, is that often they stop working when a new version of TB (or FF) is released until the add-on author updates it and some add-ons seem to have been abandoned. If it was core code the problem wouldn't arise.
Cheers
