Compact removes folders from message tree but messages remain in database; but they show up for successful searches for message features, such as "from," "to," existing "tag," and "read."

Details

(Whiteboard: [closeme 2012-01-11])

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; Avant Browser; Avant Browser; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648; .NET CLR 3.5.21022; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)

Steps to reproduce:

When reading mail, TB would periodically start compacting on it's own. When compacting was done, frequently all messages in that folder would be gone and never return.

Actual results:

Messages in open folder would no longer be listed. They still were in the database, as a general search or quick search (filter) would list those messages satisfying the search and disappear again when the search was turned off. Subfolders still contained their messages, but I cannot be sure they were all there.

Expected results:

Compacting should not "hide" messages in current folders.
My profile is not current. I no longer use Avant Browser and it is not installed. The other listings are greek to me. My browser right now is IE. I normally use Firefox, but I'm having trouble with it also -- bug listed under Firefox.

See bug 582698 (and the bugs mentioned within it).
Does this happens if you also rebuild the indexes for those folders ?
GW, please, could you answer to comment #3?
