The items in the history sidebar panel should follow the same model used by
other sidebar panels (Search, the new bookmarks panel) and load on a single
click. In addition, folders should open and close on a single click.
I'll be providing some CSS styles shortly to make the entries look like links
rather than selectable tree items.

Since the other panels do this, sounds good to me.

as much as I'd like to fix this in mozilla 0.9, I am overloaded and must push
this back a milestone. Sorry!

See also bug 55553, Bookmarks/history in the sidebar should open with a single
left click.

reassigning history bugs to new owner - send this bug back to me if it looks
like something I should fix (such as embedding-related architecture issues),
rather than the actual history owner...

This is leading to lots of confusion now that bookmarks work as expected, and is
particularly bad for users who have set up their OS to use single-click instead
of double-click. Blake, could you please either target this or reassign
(probably to sgehani as sidebar owner)?

argh!
build ID 2002021403 on Mac OS X
I've just fired up this build, and find that single-clicking an item in the
history causes it to open in _content area. This is maddening when all I want to
do is clear out cruft from my history list. Previously, I'd click on the first
of a bunch of crufty URLs in a domain, and rest of the delete key to delete the
whole mess of them.
Now, they load, move focus around, etc. Ack!
I use my history as a history of potentially usefull places I've been in the
past 90 days. This means I clean out crap on a regular (daily) basis, and create
bookmarks for things I want to keep longer than 90days.
This "bug fix" is a major usability problem for me.
What is the new prefered means to simply select a history entry (and keep focus
over there)?
I found this "bug" by searching for the bug I was about to report:
single click on history sidebar item loads re-focuses instead of selecting
Can this bug be un-"fixed"?

this is maddening!
Either the history sidebar is a useful tool for manipulating your history data
(in which case this inability to select-and-keep-focus is Wrong)
OR the history sidebar is a collection of links
(in which case it should not attempt to provide history mgmt functions)
(and in which case we need a "manage history" interface)
The current condition is really schitzoid. :/

created bug 125558 in direct contradiction to this bug. The description points
to this bug so folks can bounce back and forth between them. If bug 125558 is
WONTFIX'ed then I'll put in an RFE bug for a history management interface.

Um, I disagree. IE allows drag and drop rearranging and the ability to click
the items, and it works fine.

how about:
icon is single-click selectable, drag-n-drop-able
text (page title) is single-click-to-load link
*and* text is rendered like a link (blue, underlined)
re: items being dragable...
1) when I try to drag, before I mouse-up the page is loading.
should it be the case that you have to load a URI in order to delete it from
your history? this seems silly to me :/
If the icon were single-click-to-select then I'd be a happy camper. I just want
some way to select a single item (so I can bookmark or delete) without having to
load the durned thing again. It's in my history. I've been there. I don't need
to load it again to know whether I want to keep it or not.
...maybe I'm a minority?

I fear that with these changings the history sidebar loses the functionality to
select and delete multiple items. Or is this functionality kept?

Oh. I thought that this is a firefox bug. But I think this is the same in Mozilla.
