Details

couldn't find an existing bug for this, but pls dup if needed. this bug might be fixed/rendered moot by the new downloading/helper app ui rewrite, too... when i select "Open using" in the Downloading/helper app dialog, i get the "Saving File" [ie, download progress] dialog. this raises a couple of questions: a. should the download progress dialog appear at all when "Open using" is selected? b. if yes, could we rename the dialog to something more clear like "Loading File" rather than "Saving File"? i'm assuming here that the file isn't really being downloaded in the same sense as when a user selects "Save to disk"...but correct me if am wrong! to test this, for example, with quicktime [i did this on winNT using 2001.03.12.09 comm bits]: 0. make sure you have Quicktime installed. 1. go to an url that has a Quicktime file --you can nav thru http://quicktime.apple.com to find one, or http://www.eti.uva.nl/Ruud_temp/Mozilla.mov 2. when the Downloading dialog appears, make sure "Open using" is selected, then click OK. result: download progress dialog [labelled "Saving File"] appears. [when it finished, the Quicktime app did launch, btw.]

There should be a dialog (so you can cancel if it takes a long time or lots of disk space and you change your mind). It should have different wording/title/etc. There may be other bugs for that; I'll close dups as I run across them.
spam: over to File Handling.

The dialog title still briefly says "Saving", but then changes to "... of filename Completed".

marking duplicate of bug 102352, because that bug describes the issue more clearly, imho. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 102352 ***
