Details
Mozilla allows the user to switch between the open windows using a menu. That
menu is obscurely named as "Tasks".
According to Aqua HI Guidelines (Macworld draft, 2001-01-10, shipped on the Mac
OS X Developer Tools CD) pp. 46-47, there should be a menu called "Window" that
contains commands "Minimize" (command-M) and Zoom, a list of the open windows
and possibly application-specific commands (eg. bug 53505).
I suggest the Tasks menu be evolved into a Aqua-HI-Guideline-compliant Window
menu on Mac OS X.
(I am marking this bug Mac/Mac OS X and not All/All due to the WONTFIXing
comments in bug 48748.)

This should be done on Mac OS Classic too, since it's semi-standard through
being in the Mac OS 9.x Finder and a number of other Mac OS apps. Like I said
in bug 48748, on other platforms a list of open windows is not necessary,
because they have much better mechanisms for switching between open windows
than Mac OS (either Classic or X) does.
One wonders why OS X doesn't generate this menu itself, instead of risking
inconsistency by making the app do it, but anyway ...
Window
------
Minimize #+M
Hide #+H
---------------------------
Next Window Option+Tab
---------------------------
{window title}
{window title}
/ {window title}
{window title}
This should be distinct from the Tasks menu, which lists tools, not windows.

The Hide (command-H) menu item belongs in the Mozilla menu on Mac OS X.
On Mac OS X, the right place for the component switching menu items (that are
currently in the Tasks menu) would be the Mozilla menu. The Tools submenu could
fit there, too. See p. 43 of the Aqua HIG Macworld draft. (Of course, normally
the components would be separate apps, but since the components are being
bundled together, the Mozilla menu would be the right place.)
I don't have a good suggesting about the placement of the Privacy and Security
submenu right now.

So we want this on Mac only, but I presume that window list at the bottom is
supposed to be pulled from the Tasks menu. So does that mean you're
recommending we get rid of the list of open windows on other platforms? What
do others think?

I suggested renaming Tasks to Window for All/All in bug 48748. I don't like the
idea of getting rid of the window list on other platforms. I use the window list
on other platform, too.
I suggest:
On Mac OS X:
Mozilla

Mail&News #+2
Editor #+4
Address Book #+5
IRC #+8
Hide Mozilla #+H

Show All
Quit Mozilla #+Q
Window
------
Minimize #+M
Bring All To Front
Next Window Option+Tab
{window title}

On other platforms including Mac OS Classic:
Window

/ {window title}
{window title}
Privacy and Security policy editors could go in Edit and the related help items
in Help. There would be nothing left in Tasks.
PSM should _NOT_ go into Edit. Nor should the window list be removed from the
other platforms.
