User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0 Build ID: 20120420145725 Steps to reproduce: Start up thunderbird, processes new found messages. Version 12.01 on Windows 7. Bug new with version 12.0.1. This may have occurred after compacting, a popup came up that suggested compacting, and I let it do the compacting. There was a previous bug 197806 that was closed in 2005. Actual results: ALL filters report that the target folder for an incoming message (matched filter rule) does not exist, so it disables the filter. Expected results: All folders are present, should have found the folders.
Rebooting the system corrected this problem, except all the filters had to be found and enabled. This has been happening occasionally. May be hard to reproduce if there is some problem with my system.
(In reply to Frederick Sieber from comment #0) > This may have occurred after compacting, a popup came up that suggested compacting, > and I let it do the compacting. Do you see your problem even when you reply "Cancel" to the prompt before start of auto-compact? If prompt before auto-compact is shown, manually execute "Compact Folders" for each account later, when system's/Tb's workload is low and you have time, please. > Actual results: > ALL filters report that the target folder for an incoming message > (matched filter rule) does not exist, so it disables the filter. It may be sequence of (1) Compact deletes folder at end of Compact, (2) Filter tries to move to folder but it's just deleted, (3) Compact renames nstmp-N.tmp/.msf to actual file name for mail folder, if Compact is relevant. > Rebooting the system corrected this problem Is reboot actually needed? I think "Enabling disabled filter rules again" is sufficient. Is it right? Or "re-selection of blanked-out copy/move target folder" is needed? Or any copy/move to the folders continues to fail unless Tb is restarted?
I had tried both cancel and yes to the compact request dialog, but I have not established a pattern to it causing this problem. This problem occurred once just after I started the program, and occurred consistently after several attempts to run filters manually, until I rebooted the system. I will keep your questions/comments in mind in future to see if I can find out anything more.
Dupe of bug 752866 or bug 755317 or bug 714364 or bug 751562? Wayne, WADA it could be good to somehow link all these bugs.
Component: General → Filters
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
QA Contact: general → filters
I forgot to mention, during the period the program was failing, I also could not move any message to any folder. The program did not produce any error messages, it just would not move any messages.

Frederick what is the language of the user interface of your Thunderbird? Do you use a version other than English?
I use the English language.
(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #6) > (In reply to :aceman from comment #4) > > Dupe of bug 752866 or bug 755317 or bug 714364 or bug 751562? > > Wayne, WADA it could be good to somehow link all these bugs. > > Hashem, would you be able to do this? In general, without testing it myself and just be reading the bugs we can find that it appears for POP3 accounts, sometimes upon compacting folders, and it is a regression in 12.0 (it was not appearing in the previous version).
This bug is still here. It occurred the first time for incoming mail after the compacting request pop up showed up, even though I answered it no, do not compact.
In the last case, after restarting the program, the program had not disabled the filter, and running the filter on the inbox was successful at moving the message out of the inbox.
It appears that if you allow the compacting when requested, then reboot the computer, the bug will eventually go away, but you have to reenable all the filters that were disabled. If you do not allow the compacting when requested, the bug remains, even if you reboot.
When the bug is present, the add-on Nostalgy does not see the folders effected, even though you can find them in the folder pane.

Out of the blue, the bug now comes up for every incoming messages, and you can't move any message from the inbox to a folder. So the entire feature of moving messages from the inbox to folders is gone. The priority of this bug should be raised.
And restarting or rebooting does not remove the bug anymore.

I have Allow anti-vrus clients to quantine individual mesages, set. This may not be directly related to this bug.
I installed 13.0.1 without effect. Tried rebooting. When running manually message filter rule on inbox, I get the filter not found message, and the filter gets disabled. Log says the message was moved, but it wasn't. Showing last of log, after applying rule for buy.com, shows same 3 messages being tried repeatedly: Applied filter "buy.com" to message from "Buy.com" <buy.com_offers@enews.buy.com> - 16GB microSDHC $8.99, 1TB Hard Drive $89.99, Waterproof Digital Camera $58.99,... at 6/14/2012 6:18:32 AM moved message id = Kilauea236338-67812-135358448-3-1005@flonetwork.com to mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Vendors/ComputerTracked/buy.com Applied filter "buy.com" to message from "Buy.com" <buy.com_offers@enews.buy.com> - ViewSonic Summer Sizzler | Final days of ViewSonic Deals - get them before they expire! at 6/14/2012 3:15:50 PM moved message id = Kilauea236556-66437-135358448-3-1005@flonetwork.com to mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Vendors/ComputerTracked/buy.com Applied filter "buy.com" to message from "Buy.com Deals" <buy.com_offers@enews.buy.com> - Camping Lantern $9.99, RC Toys from $13.99, 90% off Invicta Women's Watch,... at 6/15/2012 6:18:21 AM moved message id = Kilauea236561-66437-135358448-3-1005@flonetwork.com to mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Vendors/ComputerTracked/buy.com Applied filter "buy.com" to message from "Buy.com" <buy.com_offers@enews.buy.com> - 16GB microSDHC $8.99, 1TB Hard Drive $89.99, Waterproof Digital Camera $58.99,... at 6/14/2012 6:18:32 AM moved message id = Kilauea236338-67812-135358448-3-1005@flonetwork.com to mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Vendors/ComputerTracked/buy.com Applied filter "buy.com" to message from "Buy.com" <buy.com_offers@enews.buy.com> - ViewSonic Summer Sizzler | Final days of ViewSonic Deals - get them before they expire! at 6/14/2012 3:15:50 PM moved message id = Kilauea236556-66437-135358448-3-1005@flonetwork.com to mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Vendors/ComputerTracked/buy.com Applied filter "buy.com" to message from "Buy.com Deals" <buy.com_offers@enews.buy.com> - Camping Lantern $9.99, RC Toys from $13.99, 90% off Invicta Women's Watch,... at 6/15/2012 6:18:21 AM moved message id = Kilauea236561-66437-135358448-3-1005@flonetwork.com to mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Vendors/ComputerTracked/buy.com Applied filter "buy.com" to message from "Buy.com" <buy.com_offers@enews.buy.com> - 16GB microSDHC $8.99, 1TB Hard Drive $89.99, Waterproof Digital Camera $58.99,... at 6/14/2012 6:18:32 AM moved message id = Kilauea236338-67812-135358448-3-1005@flonetwork.com to mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Vendors/ComputerTracked/buy.com Applied filter "buy.com" to message from "Buy.com" <buy.com_offers@enews.buy.com> - ViewSonic Summer Sizzler | Final days of ViewSonic Deals - get them before they expire! at 6/14/2012 3:15:50 PM moved message id = Kilauea236556-66437-135358448-3-1005@flonetwork.com to mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Vendors/ComputerTracked/buy.com Applied filter "buy.com" to message from "Buy.com Deals" <buy.com_offers@enews.buy.com> - Camping Lantern $9.99, RC Toys from $13.99, 90% off Invicta Women's Watch,... at 6/15/2012 6:18:21 AM moved message id = Kilauea236561-66437-135358448-3-1005@flonetwork.com to mailbox://nobody@Local%20Folders/Vendors/ComputerTracked/buy.com
After 13.0.1 installed, without warning, this bug went away for 90% of filters. I did get the message on one filter. I still consider it unstable.
(In reply to Frederick Sieber from comment #19) > I installed 13.0.1 without effect. Tried rebooting. > When running manually message filter rule on inbox, I get the filter not > found message, and the filter gets disabled. Log says the message was > moved, but it wasn't. When your problem occurred, was "confirmation dialog before auto-compact(by mail.purge.ask=true)" shown y Tb?
mail.purge.ask=true Lately the switch from the bug being there to it not being there and back has not been related to compact confirm dialog occurring.
This bug is still with me, but I want to summarize it again. Quite regularly, quite a few, but not all local folders become "invisible". In this state, you can still get to the folders from the folder pane, but the folders are not accessible by the add on Nostalgy, and when a message comes in that satisfies a filter rule, a popup reports the folder does not exist, and the filter is disabled, even though it is accessible from the folder pane. If you try to run the filter that applies to the folder, you get the same popup saying the folder does not exist, and the rule is again disabled. If you try to move the message to the folder from the main screen, you can see the folder on the popup menu, and the program quietly does nothing, it does not move the message and does not report an error, but it looks to the user like it was successful because there is no error message. After this first state described above, the folder will go into another state where it is still not seen by Nostalgy, but you can move the message to the folder from the main screen, or apply the filter rule manually successfully. The folder also goes to the state where everything works normally. The transition for a folder from the normal working state to the first failed state, is often associated or seems started by a compacting operation, where the popup requesting confirmation of compacting comes up, whether or not the user accepts or does not accept the compacting. Sometimes the folder goes into the error state without any compacting event seen by the user. The transition to the second error state described by the second paragraph above, or to the normal state, seems unrelated to anything. Sometimes rebooting the machine will transition a folder out of the error state, but not always.
See last comments of bug 751562. See if expanding (uncollapsing) all folders before restarting Thunderbird helps you.
This should be fixed permanently in bug 751562 for TB14. Please reopen if you can see the problem again in TB14.
