Mail news has two ways to display the preview pane (see below). If you open
mail/news with the second form and right click on a news server, the display
attempts to hide the preview panel, simultaneously with stretching the folder
panel and displaying the context menu. This all ends up in a big visual mess
with the folder pane not being painted in the right position and the context
menu not appearing next to the account.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Run Mozilla and open preferences. On "Mail and Newsgroups" select the second
window layout form (see below).
2. Restart Mozilla.
3. Open Mail/News
4. Click on a newsgroup or mail folder to ensure the preview pane is visible.
5. Right click on a mail/news account.
The two forms are listed below. You need to set the second one to see this
problem.

Build 2001-04-26-04: WinME
Using the Alt-3pane, I right-click onto the news server and I see the following
problems:
1. Message pane disappears and the Folder pane/Thread pane are expanded as
expected but I agree that it is visually disturbing.
2. The majority of the Folder pane looks blank (sometimes it's entirely blank),
only some folder names are displayed with the context menu in view.
Workaround: Scroll up/down in the folder pane and the folder names return.
Seth: Maybe this bug should be split in two?
Changing the summary to include the term "Alt-3pane"
Keywords: nsbeta1
Summary: Right clicking on mail/news account messes up display (in alternate layout) → Alt-3pane, Right clicking on mail/news account messes up display
Perhaps you should only remove/show the preview pane and change the outliner
view on a left button click?

marking nsbeta1+ and moving to 0.9.2
I think we should try to fix point #2 that nbaca mentions. If we can easily fix
the right click part without messing up the way context menus work on the rest
of folders (right now I think a lot of folder context menu commands depend on
the folder being loaded and therefore the right click acting like the left click
is useful) then we should do that, too. Reassigning to ssu.

Perhaps this will help:
Using 2001060520 in the Alt-3pane. 3 News accounts, all expanded. When I move
the top-left pane's scroll bar to the bottom so that the third news account is
shown, then right-click, a newsgroup in another news account gets displayed and
the right-click action happens as if I right-clicked on that group.
I think the problem area is the right-click action is being treated as a
left-click, then right click. If I simply left-click the news account, the 3pane
is gone and is replaced by the 2pane account overview. The mouse pointer rests
on top of the newsgroup that displays when I right-click the news account.
Perhaps you can move the mouse pointer when you re-draw the account settings
page so that the mouse stays on top of the news account that was clicked.
Or, maybe you can create a different account settings page that uses the 3 paned
window rather than creating a new 2 paned window. Just have it open in what
would be the message pane of either 3 pane window.

Tim

WFM: alt-3pane (wide preview pane) moz build 20030312 w98.
I have the preview pane open with a message selected and right-clicked on a
server in the upper left 'frame'. Context menu appears, no other changes to the
display.
