We could use BitTorrent to improve downloading times and to lower the CDN servers' load.

Note: we use WinInet to lessen the size of the stub installer and this would increase the size of the dowwnload for the stub installer.

Jake, is this something we need from your perspective?

From my perspective, we do not "need" it... we're not under any load crunch, the CDN's can handle more than we can throw at them.
Installer traffic is minimal- update traffic comprises 90%+ of our CDN bandwidth usage. Updates also drive the peak, which is how we're billed... there is no significant spike for installer downloads like there is with updates. Combined, it means that improvements to the installer delivery are just not that significant towards our monthly CDN bill.
If we could do this for *updates*, it could potentially save us a whole lot of money. Installers... meh, not particularly interested from my perspective. :)

Given comment #3 and the lack of resources in general for adding as well as maintaining new code for this functionality this is wontfix.
