Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0
Build ID: 20121010144125
Steps to reproduce:
Typed in an IP address https://8.8.8.8 <--works fine that way however doing https://8.8.8.8/go doesn't work.
Actual results:
Firefox strips off the https and converts it to http causing it to fail when trying to surf.
Expected results:
It should have gone to the https://8.8.8.8/go site.
The 8.8.8.8 is a fake URL the real IP address is protected and works fine with that thing called IE.

Do not use the Google DNS server IP as example. Use http://example.org :-)
