The new columns-first grid and item designs landed in bug 828088, so its ready for UX review. (Was merged to m-c, you should see something like the columns-first-grid attachment)
Lets track issues/nits here. Yuan/Shorlander, if you've got the design specs finished out we can get on a call and go through point by point.

Attached image snapped-view as of 828088 landing (deleted) —
Snapped view grids now get the 50px high "compact" tiles (see http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/metro/theme/tiles.css for implementation)
Sam walked me through the new tiles. The interaction and behaviors look right to me.

There will be some pixel tweaks on the layout of snap view and new tiles. Shorlander can file change bugs after reviewing the visuals.

We also talked about adjust the navigation bar on snap view. Currently, the spacing between back and forward button is off. No enough space to display URL bar. Yuan will sync up with Jonathan about auto-complete in snap view.

Lastly, we talked about hiding on-screen back and forward btns on snap view. Yuan will make a comment on whether to hide them for Win8.1 half view after a bit more research.
Thanks Yuan, we'll file follow-up bugs as necessary to address any necessary tweaks.
