I have Mac OS 9, with the Hebrew language kit installed.
When I try to view a page with Hebrew, I'm getting the letters in reverse. (I
think the page is visual Hebrew,
but I'm not sure. (It's http://www.a7.org/hebrew/index.htm; confirm?)
Mozilla is using the Mac Toolbox to draw the text. I'm guessing that the Toolbox
sees that Hebrew is being
drawn and automatically draws it right-to-left. Meanwhile, since the page is
already R-L, the letters end up
backwards.
We're being thwarted here.
(build 2000052208; G4/350)

Note: this is a spin off from bug 17175, please close if this has been already
reported.
One way to solve such a problem is to draw one character at a time instead of char*.It actually works quite fast (at least where i use it (with java)).

Compare bug 80577, but the problem there was different. The site
http://www.a7.org/hebrew/index.htm is *logical* Hebrew (charset windows-1255).
Reporter: can you test with an up-to-date build of Mozilla (with bidi support)

As soon as I can get it to launch (bug 82142) :-(

OK, got it to launch.
This is mostly fixed. There are three problems.
1. The pop-up. It should read "A7 Websites", but it's reversed ("setisbeW 7A"). I'm not
sure if that's A7's fault or Moz's.
2. Spacing. Underlining is funky. Reminds me of how things used to look on MozMac all
the time.
3. Highlighting. Dragging over the text causes the letters to rearrange themselves as you
pass over them.

And one more thing--everything is all flickery. On an English page, dragging the scroll
bar is smooth and animated gifs animate. On the Hebrew page, everything flickers. Little
white boxes appear in my scrollbar during a drag, and the animated gifs flicker like old
movies.

Having a related problem under Windows ME, english edition.
Set Edit->Properties->Appearance->Fonts->Font for = Hebrew
Type in the url: www.maariv.co.il
The page will be displayed correctly. Also, if you left click on any link
leading to a Hebrew page it will also diplay correctly.
The problem:
If you right click on a link and do "open in new window" the Hebrew text will be
reversed. Also, if you start on a correctly displayed Hebrew page, and go to an
English page by any means, bookmark or typing in the url, then return to the
Hebrew page using the back button, the Hebrew text will be reversed.

Robert, can you open a new bug for your problem with www.maariv.co.il? That is a
different issue altogether
