I'm seeing this behaviour in my Xlib build
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.4.2-XFS i686; en-US; rv:0.9+) Gecko/20010522
this also happens on solaris (sparc) xlib and solaris qt builds [seen beginning
this week i guess]. I'm not sure who should own this =(
Not just pages, seems to happen to drop down menus and pref windows as well.
i.e.
if you select a new category on the prefs page the prefs window pants black,
quickly flashes the old prefs page then shows the newly selected one.
Adding myself as CC.
I'm not sure if the black paint over is a seperate issue or not but it is highly
annoying since it happens with nearly any activity: page scrolling, redraws due
to window overlaps, menu drop downs, etc.
I'm still seeing it on:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.4.4 i686; en-US; rv:0.9+) Gecko/20010530
buildID: 2001053021
It is hard to tell if it is redrawing or not the visual effect happens in this
order:
1) You click on a link on any page.
2) The content window draws completely black for ~1 second.
3) The page you were just at re-appears for less than a second but is very
noticeable.
4) the new page that you requested is drawn.
It is probably much more noticeable on low speed links as the re-appearance
occurs between the time the page draws black and the new page is drawn. It would
not be noticeable at all it the current page remained (no black redraw) till the
next one started loading.
I am becoming more and more convinced that the black redraw IS the bug.
At this same time I started seeing this bug I started seeing black redraws for
everything as mentioned above. It is a much diferent type of redraw than as
described in bug 77507.
For an easy way to see it (at least on this platform) highlight some text on any
page and drag it so the DnD icon appears. It leaves an annoying black trail all
over the whole browser till the window refreshes. Not just the content area
either, the whole browser, chrome and all.
I just upgraded my Xserver from XFree86-4.0.2 to 4.1.0 and no more black
painting or page redraws to be seen.
Marking WFM.
It is quite possible, especially if you have a lesser known video card or a
strange screen resolution/depth that you hit a bug in the XServer that the
upgrade has fixed.
