93% heap unclassified!
Add-ons installed:
EDS Contact Integration 0.5
English (Australian) Dictionary 2.1.2
Enigmail 1.4.6
Lookout 1.2.13
Personal Level Indicators 0.5
Disabled:
Markdown Here 2.6.3
Messaging Menu and Unity Launcher Integration 1.3.1
It is hard to tell but with high memory usage, there is also corresponding high CPU usage:
14695 anand 20 0 3956m 2.5g 28m R 49 33.5 104:24.14 thunderbird
Averages around ~40% of CPU.
Summary: growing memory usage → growing memory usage, 93% heap unclassified.

Can this be demonstrated over a short period of time with thunderbird starting in safe mode?
Anything unusual in activity manager or error console?
Keywords: mlk
Summary: growing memory usage, 93% heap unclassified. → growing memory usage >3gb, 93% heap unclassified.

What is your definition of "short period of time"
(In reply to Anand Kumria from comment #3)

In safemode, with three IMAP accounts (all normal IMAP, none are gmail):
Starting with:
27659 anand 20 0 838m 149m 45m D 43 2.0 0:11.47 thunderbird
6 hours later:
27659 anand 20 0 1485m 706m 42m S 0 9.3 7:31.55 thunderbird
That's about 100Mb / hour or so.

Anand, does this reproduce with a mozilla supplied build?
for example from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/19.0b1-candidates/build1/ ... or a version 17 location

Hi,
I've upgraded to v19b2 and I no longer see the high CPU usage, so the problem has certainly changed dimensions.
I've not had it running long, so I'll update things in about 12 hours but currently at 3.5Gb / 62% usage

a log for msgdb:1 would also be helpful.
