Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0 Build ID: 20130116073211 Steps to reproduce: In Thunderbird 3.1.8 on Mac OS X 10.6.8, when I add a new message filter to a preexiting Filter Name, I can no longer immediately select that Filter Name in order to Run the filter (and see if it works). I must close the entire dialog box. Even then, the Tools menu remains highlighted in blue as though something is happening, or it is selected somehow. Upon reopening Tolls/Message Filters... I CAN now select the previously un-selectable Filter Name and run the filter (to insure that it in fact re-files the target email(s)). Expected results: Having to close and re-open Message Filters... in order to run a filter is new (bad) behavior, and a pain in the neck.
Why can't you select the filter immediatelly? Do you click it in the list and it does not get highlighted? Or what is the problem?
(Looks like bug 642810 or many similar ones about the broken highlighting in the filter list.)

After I edit the filter, click OK and return to Message Filters scroll set, I can select (shown by highlighting) any filter except the one that I just edited. (This is the frustrating part.) However, this bug appears to be just a highlighting error, because if I subsequently click Run without highlighting any filter, the change/edit that I just made IS effective. This is somewhat different behavior - but seemingly related to - bug 642810.
Yes, the filter is selected, it just isn't drawn correctly. The problem is, we can't help you if you stay on TB 3.1. There is no development/bug fixing in that branch. I think your problem is already fixed in TB17. Can you upgrade to that?
Oh my... I'm very sorry. I thought I WAS using the most recent version! (I assumed that the disparity between 3.1.8 and 17.0.2 on my PC was just another Mac vs. PC difference.) I upgraded just a week ago (using the Get Update feature) - and additionally set Thunderbird to auto-update - and I guess I expected that I would be given the most recent version. However, based on your comment, I just hit Get Update again and am now downloading v.12.0.1...which is probably not the latest version either. OK. I'll keep updating until I get the most up-to-date version. And then I'll report back if I still have a problem. It was probably fixed long ago... Jeesh... Reporting a bug in ancient software. How embarrassing!
Yes, this bug has been fixed in 17.0.2. Sorry for wasting everyone's time. Many thanks and kudos to the developers!! Tom
Thanks for confirmation :)
