This is related to bug 42574. When you want to input a half-width (hankaku) space in Japanese on a new composer document at the beginning of a line, you cannot do this at all no matter how many times you press the Space. Steps of reproduce 1. Open IME property dialog and change space to Hankaku 2. Open Composer 3. Turn on IME and hit space bar several times Spaces are not added at the beginning of the line. 4. Type some characters 5. Hit space bar several times Spaces are added only 2 times. After that, spaces are not added. Tested 5-30 Win32 build on Win98J, Winnt 4.0J, and Win2KJ. This is specific Windows problem.
