Mozilla already stores my username and password for this site. But I have to
press the login button to get inside. Shouldn't the browser itself do this?

Hmm..
I misread your comment.
I don't think mozilla is supposed to act as if you click on the submit button.
It is only supposed to fill the fields with your username/password.

Sorry, I kind of goofed up on the comment. I think its a cookie problem, I
forgot to mention that. It used to work fine for the earlier nightlies ... but
now it doesn't. I do have cookies enabled and they work fine with other
websites.

The newsforge site works correctly with IE ... maybe this is related to the
cookie but 83625? I have no way to investigate this further.

This bug had been marked a dupe of the famous cookie bug 83625. That one has
been marked as fixed, but this one remains. So I was adviced to reopen it.

I have the following problems with this bug report:
1. The site http://www.newsforge.com does not respond. I just tried it with the
N6 browser and with the N4 browser. Nothing came up in either case.
2. This report doesn't give any description of how to reproduce the problem. I
assume that the first step is to go to http://www.newsforge.com (which I can't
do). Then what? Does a login screen appear? Is it supposed to be prefilled
but it isn't? Are you suppose to go directly into the site without even seeing
the login screen but that is not what is happening?
3. If this involves already having registered for this site, can you post a
username and password that we can use to demonstrate the problem.

The problem is at the server side. Loading www.newsforge.com works ok, but
loading newsforge.com doesn't work the way it is expected to - it cannot
remember the user who had earlier logged on, i am not even sure if they use
cookies to track that, since there is no newsforge cookie in mozilla. In fact
that is what had prompted me to think that the cookie doesn't get set.
The same behaviour is seen in IE.
Sorry for the trouble!
