IMAP folder discover hangs on certain macs spun off from bug #82821 even with after the fix for #82821 landed, there were still problems with folder discovery on esther's and lchiang's mac. on lisa's machine, we'd hang during folder discovery. (todo, install macbugs on lisa's machine, and see where it is hanging) on esther's machine, we saw the original problem, where numerous .msf files were getting created. on cavin's and sheelar's machine, everything worked fine. this bug is to track these issues.

I still cannot reproduce this problem on my Mac G4 9.0.4 for today 06-21-08-trunk build.... Is this Lisa's machine specific problem? I can also try to reproduce this problem from Lisa's machine if Lisa want to, or Esther, can you try on Lisa's machine again?....

Probably something in my account triggers this bug. I am in mtgs all afternoon so I'll give Esther my mail password to try this.

Hmm...don't know whether it's Lisa's account problem or not?? I did try for Lisa's account on my Mac machine... I cannot reproduce original problem (by following bug 82821 steps). I only see an alert "Mailbox is at 91% quota" displays.....

moving to 0.9.3 not sure what the problem is, but I need more time to set up a debug build on a machine where this is actually happening. lchiang's account doesn't do this on all macs.

I am wondering to know whether this is specific for Mac OS problem since Esther reproduced this problem before and it was on Mac 8.6....we can investigate this bug on 0.9.3 later.....

Update: new profile on build 6-27 0.9.2. This time, the folder discovery stops after my "Administrative" folder and the Inbox loads. The rest of my folders (I have many!) after Administrative folder doesn't show up. When examining the profile directory for my account, I see many .msf files created for certain folders such as "Current1.msf", "Current2.msf", etc. (I have a folder called Current)

used 06-27-03-0.9.2 build. I tried again on my IMAP mail account, I still cannot reproduce this problem. The IMAP folder discovery looks FINE for my IMAP mail account. But, I did see the duplicate summary files for IMAP special folders (Sent-1.msf, Drafts-1.msf & Templates-1.msf). I logged bug 88135 already.

Karen - remind me to stop by your cubicle to see this. Since you don't know all the folders that I have, perhaps once the folder discovery stopped and the Inbox loaded, you may not know that some folders aren't there!

I am worried this bug may happen to more people. Would be good to understand what it is about my folders that is special.

this bug causes me to worry too. I'll work with lisa to try her account on a debug build on a 8.6 machine.

I looked at Lisa's IMAP folders, there are some special characters as following: ! - , . _ @ The longest folder name is 34 characters w/spaces. The interesting thing is: Lisa cannot reproduce this bug problem on my G4 Mac OS 9.0.4 either. I believe that this bug is specific for some Mac OS (Problems can be reproduced on Esther's 8.6 & Lisa's 9.0) I probably need to get the IMAP log from Lisa's or Esther's Mac, so we can narrow down this problem. (Currently, IMAP log is broke for Mac--I don't know why??, we need do this once IMAP log is avavilable for Mac again....) Ccing John as well, since I didn't get the response from him for bug 20324 yet..

This bug is targeted at a Mac classic platform/OS, which is no longer supported by mozilla.org. Please re-target it to another platform/OS if this bug applies there as well or resolve this bug.
