I am filing this bug more as a reminder than as an actual bug. I have been testing whether the Gallery app returns EXIF data for images that have been selected through the 'pick' Activity from third party apps. And specifically if that EXIF data contains GPS information. It turned out that the images returned from the pick activity actually contain no EXIF data at all. Even though they do on disk. After having a discussion with :djf it became clear that the stripping of EXIF data is more a surprise side-effect than something that was actually meant to happen. So, I'm filing this bug as a reminder that we should have a discussion about what to do with the GPS data that is stored in images that the Gallery app maintains. Specially since :djf hinted that we should really just give back what we have on disk instead of letting Gecko play with the image first. This is similar to bug 840208(Camera leaks GPS location info when used from pick activity) - but there it actually happened.

Stefan - Do you think this is worth tracking for v1? Important enough to stop ship?
FYI: Bug 811947 - [camera] Geolocation EXIF data is not placed in the picture when geolocation is turned on
This is still a relevant bug. We need UX designs that notify the user when they are picking a file that contains geolocation data and allow the user to easily remove it. I am not working on it, so removing myself.
