After a discussion in #ux (IIRC) sometime around November last year (IIRC), it was brought up that "Media" would be nicer and less confusing (with "add-ons" and "extensions") name for the plugins category. "Media" better describes to people what plugins do - they're additions to the browser that et them view a certain type of media on pages. It's also less confusing with "add-ons" and "extensions", as for most people they're all synonyms (that they're really not is just exposing the implementation details). This also (roughly) fits in with the idea that we may want to pull in the categorization from AMO and expose add-ons under those categories instead of under one "extensions" category.
Seeing as all the support info out there already says "plugins", might I suggest a compromise of "media plugins" instead of simply "media"? It's a little more descriptive and doesn't drop the name recognition that already exists.
Far from all plugins are media related. There are security/banking plugins (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_identity_card) such as https://install.bankid.com/ (for Sweden).
