A common refrain around BMO is "Could you file a new bug for comment X?" Some people say you should just go ahead and do the filing yourself, but there are obvious downsides: you lose the ability to slap a needinfo pointing at the reporter, and you have to see all the bugmail, etc. We can currently clone bugs, but that copies the CC list, status flags, and more that isn't always desirable. Instead, I propose a per-comment cloning feature that fills out the filing screen for a new bug in the same component with the following information: * blank summary * description is the cloned comment with a pointer back to the original bug and comment * same platform defaults as regular bug filing * user performing the clone on the CC list * reporter is the original author of the cloned comment This would make it much more likely for experienced bugzilla users to go ahead and clone comments that belong in a separate bug and lets us overcome a possible touchpoint in which there is a reasonable change the original author could just disappear instead.
Hm if I understand what you're saying, I don't really like the idea of filing a bug on behalf of someone else. We don't do anything like that anywhere else, to my knowledge. I'm not convinced that this is onerous enough to warrant a new feature, particularly since I bet you would normally have to make changes to the description to account for the lack of context.
