Much as I personally disagree with the notion, I am, I think, a minority. The crowd has spoken, and it is top posting they want. I don't think the default should change for NNTP. People on newsgroups are still quite strict about top and bottom posting. Currently requests for the setting make up a very significant proportion of support requests and that is despite the settings being documented. I think perhaps we are tilting an windmills here and need to go with the times.
