So this is a very specific use case, but one that annoys me. I have a habit of not updating nightly every night. Usually it takes me about a week to update nightly. In the meantime, it will download the update from the day after the previous update. A few days later, when I get around to going to About Firefox, I have to restart to update to a now outdated version. Then, I have to go back to About Firefox and download today's nightly. I wish Nightly would throw out the downloaded update if the downloaded update was not the latest version when I visit About Firefox.

Fwiw, I've seen this problem too lately (on Linux64). I suspect that my
preference "Nightly updates: Never check for updates" is simply ignored.

This mainly affects nightly users and not release beta users so it hasn't been a high priority.

How can "a previous update is still in progress or staged" from that bugs
subject affect me when I have "Nightly updates: Never check for updates" ?

Ah, maybe if I run the same binary but using a different profile that has
the default value for the pref?
