Details

When you enter text, no matter if it's the address line of the browser or a HTML form element, the cursor will always be inside the last letter of the current line (the letter to its left), intead of being behind it. This bug applies to ALL input fields and usually only takes place at the last letter. When using the arrow keys to move towards the beginning of a line, the cursor will be perfectly between the chars, except in text areas. In text areas moving the cursor to the left will sometimes cause it to be inside of the previous char (the char to its right). When I say "inside the char" I don't mean in the middle of the char, it just 'hits' the char at end or at the beginning, but it looks very ugly and makes it often hard to recognize the last letter, without moving the cursor away first.
Reporter: what build are you using? I could not reproduce.
I'm using Build-ID: 2001060703 I'm sorry I haven't included this right from the start, but I thought my agent data (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.1) Gecko/20010607) is included automatically. I made two screen-shots and created an animated GIF: http://tgos.org/mozilla-bug1.gif In case of the letter 'a' (as seen on this picture), it's not that annoying, but the letters 't' or 'l' are very hard to read because of this. Shall I make some more screenshots of imput fields (e.g. text areas of webpages) as well? I'll do what I can to support you.
I still could not reproduce on WinXP/2001061504-trunk, maybe try a more recent build to see if it was fixed? However, that ani-GIF caused my Mozilla to use 50% CPU and have erratic response.. may have to file a separate bug on your GIF.
This is a dupe of another bug. The way the blinking cursor blinks not "after" a letter, but about 1 px to the left of the end of the letter... searching for the dupe...
