Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a message compose window and address the message to yourself. 2. Insert an image in the content of the message. (I used an image on my desktop.) 3. Hit "send". 4. At the dialog asking whether you want to send the message as plain text, html, or both, select "plain text only". 5. Check your inbox. 6. View-source the message. Result: notice that the message was sent as multipart/related, but there is only one part (with mime type text/plain). Expected: same result as if you had just bolded some of the message and sent it as plain text: the message is just text/plain. I don't know how serious this bug is. Are text-only mail readers confused by multipart/related messages?
I don't think it's a big deal. It's not about the fact the mail reader understand HTML mail or not but rather if it understand MIME 1.0 formatted message which today should be the case for most of them. Sure would be nicer to not generate extra data...

once bug 174396 fixed, I'll probably able to close this bug as WFM

Tested following the fix of bug 174396, and this now WFM. If this surfaces again, reopen.
