If Motif static libraries are not available moz-export does not build and the make breaks (tested with LessTif on NetWinder). Since the configurator has set all the flags and variables to check if these libraries are available, it's quite easy to do the check and use the shared libraries instead.

I checked in some makefile hackery (different than yours) to do the same thing. Your problem should be fixed. marking fixed.
