* the letters are displayed in a fluid way
Actual:
* the input lags behind
Here is a WIP patch, the tests are not passing yet, and this still feels a little laggy even if it's faster than before.

bug 902497 is one step in the good direction. We'll see how it feels after this.

I think it's better to keep this one opened because it focusses on one specific use case and it makes sense to debug this alone.
For example, it would be useful to have a profile from a current build for this.

Now I don't feel it's slow _once a thread is loaded_.
But now we need bug 887198 to load a thread much faster.
