Asking for more info from localizer to see if he can do anything about this

Sorry, fixing this seems hard by making small changes to its localized version only. I can’t do a proper test on anything else but a broken emulator, as I’m not able to build a version locally (using Windows), and nl is not included in Keon either. However, using the broken emulator I was able to check it, though its font size is unreliable. Guess what, it works, but then I see both "subject" and "body" truncated. Apart from the fact both localized terms are basically not suitable to get truncated without users wondering what they stand for, it seems obvious that this bug is caused by a basic design rule (like most UI bugs about non-fitting strings). It’s just a bad idea to use 5 terms/boxes in a row in the first place, knowing non-en-US locales may likely need more space. Note that we’re talking an apparent max width of 7 (in one en-US string), where 9 or 10 characters cause visibility issues already. IMO such issues should not even occur. Please check what other options for fixing this exist. If there aren’t any, I’ll check again to see what’s possible. Sidenote: as said, the emulator is not to be trusted due to its font sizes, but I see lots of more truncated words or lines in the emulator, like the "last sync" or "new account" line. I stopped worrying about them.
Hi Ton, thanks for this extensive feedback. Just so you know, there should be a v1.1 build for Keon available very soon. I know how frustrating this must be in the meantime... As you can see in bug 892075, there are a LOT of cases of truncation and overlapping on FirefoxOS. We are currently working with the UX team to find solutions for this. Nevertheless, I will add UX team to this bug as you give some advice about this here. I don't think the UX solution will come right away, so if ever in the meantime you find a way to fix this it would be great. But I do understand that might just not be possible, for various reasons. thanks!

Adding localizers to see if they can find a work around for this.
Clearing the needinfo for UX. Please re-flag us if it is determined that a copy change and/or ellipsis will not work. Thanks!

On the latest nightly build on my keon (1.2.0.0, build20130810024207), with sadly no dutch at the moment, i noticed that subject is also truncated in English.

The "body" tab is also truncated when searching email. I am attaching a screenshot.

Tim, is still an open issue for Dutch? From the screenshot, it seems you chose an abbreviation and it's completely displayed.
Flags: needinfo?(bugzilla)
I used an (unofficial) abbreviation allright so this should be “fixed”. Still wondering why English keeps it truncated though… Tim, could you verify? http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/gaia-l10n/v1_2/nl/rev/d61ef882bc0e http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/gaia-l10n/v1_3/nl/rev/49abf31a3e23 http://hg.mozilla.org/gaia-l10n/nl/rev/3f6c3c6ec0d6

English is not truncated on current master.
(In reply to Francesco Lodolo [:flod] from comment #16) > English is not truncated on current master. It is on 1.2 and 1.3, which is what the bug was intended for, wasn’t it? This made me wonder why locales should fix it for 1.2/1.3 if en-US didn’t.
Yes, this bug was opened 1.2, and confirmed for 1.3 (see whiteboard). If this is not a bug anymore in current versions, it should be closed, no point in keeping in it open for the time being. At this point I don't see changes coming to 1.3 to fix this.
verified on build 20140325024146 1.5.0.0-prerelease and build 20140325004509 1.3.0.0-prerelease
