User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130905030206
Steps to reproduce:
Opened TB today. (also occurs in Safe Mode and with new clean profile)
Actual results:
After a new email is downloaded to a POP inbox it is repeatedly duplicated to the inbox. Duplication occurs at the check for new email interval or when I refresh inbox (Get Messages). Not affecting IMAP.
Expected results:
Only one instance of an email should reach the inbox.

This only seems to happen if you have the server pref set to leave messages on the server.
A possible cause is bug 239455 At least it fits the regession range.
I now have the same issue on TB on Win 7 64bit , Daily , EarlyBird AND release
I've tried deleting popstate.dat - no joy - am backing up my profile to delete the problem account and recreate and see if that helps
I have 25GB HDD free so I don't think this is related to bug 239455

Free space has not been a problem with me either but un-checking 'Leave Messages on Server' has removed the duplicate issue. So it seems relevant to 239455. Incidentally, I can't verify this on Ubuntu. Can anyone else?
I really don't want to remove the messages from the server - I want to be able to access on web if necessary. I have tried to remove the account and replace with another but bizarrely I can't see ANYTHING in the corresponding folder now, yet the duplicate issue seems sorted - I've got to go now...will come back to this thread in a bit...
Why not just uncheck the "Check for new messages every" option for each affected account and wait till the issue is resolved. This is a regression and will be fixed. No need for panicking.

This makes pop unusable - we should track it - and I can reproduce with my hotmail account. Removing popsdate.dat didn't help.
Are pop logs wanted ?

Hi,
just to let you know, I used to have this problem some months/years ago and I don't have it now. I also use POP and 'leave messages on server' for all my accounts. But I don't use Hotmail.
Could it be backend related (so not a Thunderbird but a Hotmail issue)? For me, the (long) period of the issues coincided with major backend changes at the service provider, and it was solved automatically at the time.

I really doubt that it's Hotmail related. Simply as I suffer from the bug as well but not using Hotmail. Even more it doesn't occur once I pull mails from the same mail account from my smartphone and also not if I don't use trunk build (Daily) but Thunderbird 17.0.8.

Sorry, it wasn't clear for me that the bug does not happen on 17.0.8 - which I'm on.
