Mozilla build: 2001072106 on Linux. Latest RealPlayer (8.0) although Mozilla displays Real plug-in v.7.0 (!). URL to load: http://www.xchat.org/files/binary/rpm/xchat-1.8.1-1.src.rpm . Behaviour: crashes Mozilla. Expected behaviour: warns user that this rpm is not Real content or at least not crash. This bug can be fairly common as there're many RPM archives on the Net (RedHat) and, many times, Web servers are incorrectly setup and send Real MIME type.

can you please use a talkback build to get this crash? It's important to find out whether this crash is in the browser or in the plugin itself... The installer builds include talkback under Linux.

It doesn't crash in 4.x, so it would make sense to remove RP from the components directory and restart Mozilla so it picks up the legacy plugin to be on par with 4.x. This way we could probably determine if this is our problem or the plugin's.
