It'd be handy to have "Proxy" indicator appearing somewhere on the status bar (there're pleny of free space yet ;-), showing whenever the connection goes via proxy or directly

Reporter, duping against a similar (but not exact same) bug for indicating proxy in title bar. Please reopen if you feel wronged. :) Vote for that bug! *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 36305 ***

Heh, not quite. A `proxy icon' (as in bug 36305) is an icon which acts as a proxy for the document, so you can drag it to your file manager or whatever to make a shortcut. It has nothing to do with proxy servers. Reopening.

I don't think it's worth having persistent display of proxy server usage in the Navigator window. Firstly, the most likely case for a proxy is that the proxy is used for all (or nearly all) URLs, so the indicator would be redundant most of the time. Secondly, for a large proportion of cases where a proxy is in effect, it is at large institutions (such as companies or universities) where most users are unaware of what a proxy is, let alone wanting to know when it's being used. And thirdly, the status bar is too cluttered already, and a nearly-useless proxy usage indicator would only make it worse. Wontfix.
