Details

As per bug 935509 comment 1 we should split the currently monolithic database code into a generic part with handling for simple operations and containing the necessary harness to build complex transactions and an application-specific part containing the complex logic. Splitting the logic will allow us to share the generic part and should make writing unit-tests simpler.

Bug 911947 comment 9 contains an interesting suggestion on the generic interface.
