http://limpet.net/mbrubeck/2012/09/19/metro-firefox-without-windows.html says that ac_add_options --enable-metro should be enough to get metro going on other platforms. However, on Mac at least, the window doesn't come up because there are tons of JavaScript errors from accessing the non-existent Services.metro object. With this tiny shim, the browser launches successfully. Most touch interactions don't work, but this is enough to debug most layout and painting problems.
